The solar power plant, located on 131 acres in Mililani Agricultural Park came online in July 2022, just in time to enhance grid reliability at a critical time with the decommissioning of the state’s last coal plant in September 2022.
Mililani I was Oahu’s first operational, utility-scale solar and battery storage power plant, which is designed to provide clean energy to the grid even after the sun sets and further advance the state’s goal of 100% renewable energy by 2045. Mililani I includes a 39 MW solar photovoltaic project paired with 156 MWh of battery storage located in the Mililani Agricultural Park, on land owned by Clearway.
The project is also host to Phase 2 of an innovative agrivoltaic research project in partnership with Hawaii Agricultural Research Center (HARC) which explores the potential for the dual use of lands for local energy and local food production.
